AUTUMN CHANGES

This honey-bee was hard at work, collecting the nectar from these blooms by the boulevard, heedless of the buses and cars and delivery vans passing close by. This busy-bee reminded me that it was Autumn and he still had much to do.

I was on a mission. I wanted to see how many things I could find indicating that it was another season. Summer was over and Fall had officially started some weeks ago.

I was attracted to this single leaf–so perfect with its colors and lines. Mother Nature is an amazing person. . . .

Pumpkins are the picture of Fall. My only regret was I had missed taking a photo of the entire field of orange pumpkins, rather than the harvested few left on display. . . . .

We mustn’t forget the squashes. They are every bit as important as pumpkins in any bountiful harvest.

Who knew there were so many shapes and sizes?

Time to rake those leaves, admire the Tiger Toad plant and to marvel again that the Chinese Lantern flowers do grow like a normal plant. . .even though we often see them as dried husks in Fall floral arrangements.

A whole field of “Black-Eyed Susans” or as proper gardeners call them, Rudibeckia. Usually, I only see these as clumps, scattered here and there, in various gardens–but it is totally awesome to see a whole front yard covered with only these flowers.

I’m not really into Halloween, but there are so many homes along my walking route that put on elaborate displays. However, I didn’t expect to find this visitor hovering gleefully over the displays of outdoor fruits and veggies. . . .

I wonder if she’s warning people about the perils of not eating your veggies or maybe, it’s the danger of turning that green color like her if we did. . . .

It is that unbeatable Autumn weather–those crisp days painted with blue skies, wispy clouds, cooler temperatures and a quicker pace to the daily walks. It won’t be long before Winter settles in for his share of the old year and the beginnings of the new.

AND, when I started “Autumn Changes”–who knew that British Columbians would awaken to a new change in provincial government. For the first time in 93 years, the Conservative party now governs my province. It will be an interesting 4 years to see what promises are kept and what promises are forgotten or ignored.

Like the ever changing Seasons, Life moves on and adapts. As my Grandfather use to say: “It is better to bend in the wind than break. . . . ”
